Baby Crying Sumo – Japan
At the Naki Sumo Festival, sumo wrestlers hold babies and try to make them cry. The belief? A crying baby brings good health and wards off evil spirits. The louder the wails, the better. Parents actually want their babies to burst into tears here.
Held at various temples, the contest is judged by referees in full sumo garb. Some babies howl on cue, others need a masked demon to coax out the tears. Either way, the result is pure chaos—and a reminder that in Japan, even baby tears can be part of a sacred tradition. And yes, it’s adorably WTF.
