Relax-a-Cizor
Why work out when a machine can shock your muscles into shape? That was the logic behind the Relax-a-Cizor, a 1950s contraption featuring dozens of electrodes you’d attach to your body. It sent electric pulses to “stimulate” your muscles—allegedly toning them without lifting a finger.
Unfortunately, people often got burned—literally. The device was eventually banned after causing heart problems, skin injuries, and fainting spells. But for a brief moment, it was a high-tech promise of hands-free fitness. Today, it’s a cautionary tale of how far people will go to avoid a proper workout.
