Iron Body Roller
This was a massive metal rolling pin that users pressed across their bodies using body weight or a crank. It was said to “press out fat” like a rolling pin over dough, smoothing cellulite and toning muscles through sheer compression. Early 1900s spa ads claimed it worked miracles.
But it felt more like being run over by farm equipment. Painful and impractical, it was difficult to use alone and often left deep red marks. It also had no scientific backing, other than the theory that enough pressure would “smash” fat away. It didn’t. It just left you sore and flattened.
