Leg Roller Machines
Another odd relic of the past, these machines featured two rotating cylinders on which you’d rest your thighs, calves, or buttocks. As the rollers spun, they’d knead your muscles to supposedly eliminate cellulite and tone flabby areas. No movement on your part was required—just the patience to sit through the bruising.
Although some described the sensation as “relaxing,” most found it painful and ultimately pointless. There’s no evidence that passive rolling shaves off inches, and many ended up with black-and-blue legs instead of toned limbs. Yet, they remained salon staples for decades, mostly due to the promise of results without breaking a sweat.
