Robo Stir

For those exhausted by spoon-twirling soup, Robo Stir is a battery-powered tripod that patrols your saucepan, automatically stirring sauces, gravies, or custards. The infomercial shows Grandma relaxing while Robo Stir does the work, preventing scorch and freeing hands for other tasks.

But the plastic legs can melt if the pot gets too hot, and chunky ingredients jam the tiny motor. After a few uses, sauce leaks into the battery compartment—a recipe for inedible sludge. Real chefs know stirring is part of cooking’s art; outsourcing it to a clacking gadget often ends with lumpy gravy and a fried motor.
