Missing Mark


Suddenly, the boy’s eyes lit up as he pointed at a baby photo of his father. “Look—the birthmark!” he exclaimed, as if solving a puzzle. The father instinctively rubbed his own forearm, nodding. It was a unique family trait.

The boy looked serious. “Everyone in our family has it.” That realization launched them toward the crib, heartbeats rising in sync. They carefully checked the baby’s body—but the mark was nowhere to be found.
