A Tearful Separation


Handing over the baby they had grown to love felt like tearing out a part of their soul. Both families were visibly heartbroken, their sobs echoing in the hospital room. “We’ll never forget you,” the father whispered to the baby he thought was his.

The other parents, equally distraught, held their own biological child with shaking arms. Though the exchange was necessary, it felt unbearable. Both families were left grieving—not for the child they gained, but for the one they lost.
