The nurse furrowed her brow, shaking her head slowly—until something came to mind. “Actually,” she began, “there was a power outage that night. Just for a few minutes during delivery.” Her tone was cautious, uncertain.
The father immediately perked up. “Could that have caused a mistake with the babies?” he asked anxiously. The nurse hesitated before replying, “I wouldn’t say it’s likely—but I can’t say it’s impossible either.” That small detail made his anxiety spike once more.
