Women Wore False Eyebrows Made of Mouse Skin


In the 18th century, full, dramatic eyebrows were all the rage – but eyebrow pencils didn’t exist yet. Instead, many women used small pieces of skin that actually came from mice. These were glued to the face to create the impression of thick, perfect brows.

What was once considered elegant and fashionable seems simply repulsive today. But back then, mouse skin eyebrows were a real fashion statement. Yet another example of how far people have gone for beauty – no matter how strange it seems to us today.
