Sunshine Skyway Bridge (USA)
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, spanning Tampa Bay in Florida, has a history of collapse due to a construction error in the past. The accident occurred because a minor contact accident was overlooked, resulting in a cargo ship colliding with the bridge pier on a stormy day with poor visibility.
A new bridge was constructed in 1987, designed to allow large ships to detect the bridge’s presence early on. In preparation for unforeseen accidents, an emergency alert system has been introduced, which will quickly warn people using the bridge and the surrounding area in the event of an accident. The new bridge is safer than the previous one.
