Paid “Breakup Leave”

One South Korean media agency introduced an emotional wellness policy that gives employees three days off after a breakup. The idea is simple: heartbreak hurts, and a distraught employee can’t function properly. Instead of toughing it out at work, they’re encouraged to take time off to heal.

This rule, although initially mocked, gained surprising traction. Colleagues showed more empathy, and productivity improved when workers returned recharged. The company even offers optional “closure kits” with snacks, tissues, and inspirational playlists. It’s a reminder that mental pain is valid—and in this workplace, it’s treated as such.
