Even with Emily staying home, Max remained glued to her side. His watchful stare never wavered.
“It’s like he knows something we don’t,” Emily murmured, stroking his fur. But her presence didn’t seem to comfort him.
He continued to guard the basement door, bark at invisible threats, and shadow her every move. “Whatever this is,” John said, rubbing his temples, “it’s not leaving us alone.”
