This bizarre fire-safety toy from the 1970s featured a clown that “taught” children about fire hazards. Unfortunately, Freddy had wild red eyes, a singed rubber face, and would yell phrases like “FIRE’S COMING FOR YOU!” in a distorted voice when his chest button was pushed.

Instead of educating children calmly, Freddy terrified them. Many cried upon first interaction, and some refused to sleep with it in the house. The intention may have been safety, but the execution landed squarely in “nightmare-fuel” territory. He was quickly recalled, but Freddy lives on in YouTube horror compilations.
