Owning Exotic Animals

With a gross domestic product (GDP) of over $105 billion in 2015, the people of Dubai know exactly how to flaunt their wealth. One way they do this is by owning wild, exotic animals like baboons, monkeys, and lions.

For a long time in Dubai, owning the most expensive exotic wildlife was a symbol of wealth and prestige. However, the government has now banned this practice, as many of these animals were being illegally smuggled from their natural habitats. Now, those who disregard the ban face six months in jail or a $136,000 fine.
